How you bottle feed your baby matters!!! Yup…we How you bottle feed your baby matters!!!

Yup…we go over how to bottle feed your baby in our Breastfeeding Basics and More Class! Be sure to join us! Link to register in the bio!

Whether you are already planning on offering bottles or maybe that’s not part of your plan, sometimes things don’t go as expected, and that’s okay!

That’s why I incorporate bottle feeding techniques into my Breastfeeding Basics & More prenatal class to ensure you can still reach your goal. How your baby learns to take a bottle can impact if they will continue to breastfeed (or if they will refuse a bottle) and we show you the tricks for how to protect both.

While breastfeeding is the primary goal for many, bottles are sometimes introduced earlier than expected, and it’s important to feel prepared for that, too! I teach how to offer a bottle gently and effectively, so your baby can comfortably transition between breast and bottle with ease. It’s all about helping you feel confident in every feeding situation, whether it’s breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or a combination of both. 🤱✨

If you’re preparing for your little one’s arrival and want to feel fully equipped for the feeding journey ahead, sign up for my upcoming class! You’ll gain valuable tips, practical skills, and the support you need to feel empowered no matter what path your feeding experience takes.

Join our community of parents-to-be to learn, ask questions, and get the best start possible. Our class is fun and casual and taught by our nurse practitioner-IBCLC. Come learn what feeding your infant will REALLY look like. ❤️

Upcoming classes:
Sat, Nov 1 - 10am-12pm
Sat, Nov 15 - 10am-12pm
at our location in Rancho Bernardo

Lactation care should be proactive, not reactive. Lactation care should be proactive, not reactive.

Just like establishing care with an OB, midwife, or pediatrician to ensure mom and baby both stay healthy, the same can be said for lactation care. Once challenges are occurring with feeding your infant, the challenges become more difficult to overcome. Establishing care with a lactation nurse practitioner can prepare you for the many challenges that arise when initiating breastfeeding and alternative forms of infant feeding.

The most common challenges we see is a baby with latch difficulties and low milk supply. Attending a prenatal appointment can help you to identify what challenges may be more likely for you and your baby and gives you an opportunity to develop a plan to address them before your infant feeding goals are thrown off track.

Prenatal lactation care should be standard for EVERY BIRTHING PARENT! No matter how you choose to feed your baby. Even parent planning to bottle feed would benefit from a prenatal lactation appointment to prepare.

Don’t wait until the struggles appear. Receive the preparation you need before baby arrives to feel more confident and empowered to get off to a strong start!

When Should You Start Solids? Here’s What the Am When Should You Start Solids? Here’s What the American Academy of Pediatrics Says!

According to the AAP, infants should be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life.

Here are the signs to know your baby might be ready for solids…..

✨Is 6 months old - A baby’s sensitive tummy isn’t meant to digest solid foods too soon because they take time to mature and establish a healthy gut microbiome. No need to rush. It’s ok to let their gastrointestinal system develop. They should receive exclusive breastmilk (or formula when necessary) for the first 6 months of life.

✨Sit upright unassisted - They should be able sit in a high chair or infant chair unassisted and with good control. This helps ensure they are stable enough to explore food with less risk of choking.

✨Good head control - No bobble heads! Just like sitting, they should have good head control to make sure there is less risk for choking on the foods they are exploring.

✨Loss of tongue thrust - Babies have a built in reflex to push food out of the mouth when they aren’t ready for solids as a protective feature. If your baby is still thrusting their tongue forward, they aren’t quite ready for solids. Give them just another week or two.

✨Adequate growth - It’s important babies are growing well and develop before initiating solids. The AAP recommends infants have doubled their birth and are at least 13lbs or more before it’st time to start solids.

Other signs you’re looking for is your babies increased interest in food. If they are trying to steal your food, then they’re interested. But to ensure their transition to solids is a safe one, be sure they also meet the criteria above. Know which foods are safe to give, how to handle potential allergies, and reach out to an NP, IBCLC for guidance if you’re not sure.

Introducing solids too early or too late can increase the risk of illness, allergies, or missing out on key nutrients. Always ask your provider for tips on how to begin.
